While most of the time my blog will be very London based, I don’t want to alienate the rest of the UK as there are some fantastic productions that are on tour or new productions of plays at venues coming up.
So here is a good one coming up if you are in Bath next month. The Mother by Florian Zeller arrives at the Ustinov Studio in Bath from the 21st May and the cast has just been announced.
It is the UK premiere of the play in a new translation by Christopher Hampton and will be directed by Laurence Boswell (Ustinov Studio’s Artistic Director).
Anne is a housewife who fondly remembers getting her two young children breakfast in the morning and sending them off to school. But now they are grown up with lives of their own and Anne spends countless hours alone. But she has now convinced herself that a weekend seminar Dijon is actually a front for her husband Pierre’s affair.
Perhaps her favourite son Nicholas will break up with his girlfriend and return home. He will come down for breakfast and then they will go out. After all, tomorrow is Mother’s Day…
Playwright Florian Zeller is fast becoming one of France’s best known contemporary playwrights and is also known for The Father which also appeared at the Ustinov Studio and transfers to the Tricycle Theatre next month.
Cast for the production includes Gina McKee, Richard Clothier, William Postlethwaite and Cora Horgan.
The Mother will appear at the Ustinov Studio from the 21st May until 20th June. For more information and to book tickets visit: http://www.theatreroyal.org.uk/page/3029/The-Mother/988
