King Charles III to Embark on UK Tour

Following sold out runs at the Almeida Theatre and in the West End, it has been announced today that the multi-award winning King Charles III will be heading off on a UK tour from September.

Mike Bartlett’s play is directed by Rupert Goold with Whitney Mosery and will see Robert Powell play the role of King Charles, a role previously played by Tim Piggott-Smith.

The production will open at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre before visiting Richmond, Newcastle, Nottingham, Milton Keynes,Cambridge and Canterbury.

It is a show which begins shortly after the Queen’s death and after what seems like a lifetime of waiting, Prince Charles ascends the throne. But how will he rule?

Exploring the people beneath the crowns, Mike Bartlett’s play examines the unwritten rules of democracy and the conscience of Britain’s most famous family.

This news follows on from the announcement that the play is to open on Broadway this October at the Music Box Theatre. It will see Tim Piggott-Smith reprising his role as King Charles, alongside Oliver Chris, Richard Goulding, Adam James, Margot Leicester, Miles Richardson, Tom Robertson, Sally Scott, Tafline Steen and Lydia Wilson.

King Charles III was originally produced at the Almeida Theatre and was co-produced by the Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions and Stuart Thompson Productions in association with Lee Dean and Charles Diamond and Tulchin Bartner Productions.

It has been awarded Best New Play by the Olivier Awards, Critics Choice and South Bank Sky Arts Award.

The tour will open at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on the 4th September. For full details on where the tour is heading and how to book tickets visit: http://kingcharles3play.co.uk/.
