Full Cast for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at West Yorkshire Playhouse Announced

Casting for the Sherman brother’s hit musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang opening at the West Yorkshire Playhouse on the 2nd December has been announced.

The production which will be directed by West Yorkshire Playhouse’s Artistic Director James Brining in an adaptation by Jeremy Sams from Ian Fleming’s original book and based on the MGM Motion Picture Licensed Script adapted by Ray Roderick.

Jon Robyns (Memphis, Avenue Q) will play Caractacus Potts, with Amy Griffiths (Stephen Ward, The Pajama Game) as Truly Scrumptious. The cast will also include Don Gallagher (Lord Scrumptious/Baron Bomburst), Tamsin Carroll (Baroness Bomburst), Stephen Matthews (The Childcatcher) and Andy Hockley (Grandpa Potts).

The musical features music and lyrics by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman, who were also responsible for Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book. They have won two academy awards for their work as well as a further nine nominations and two Grammy awards.

This new production will include magnificent sets and costumes designed by Simon Higlett , choreography by Stephen Mear as well as memorable songs such as ‘Hushabye Mountain’, ‘Toot Sweets’ and the Oscar nominated title song ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’.

After a nine week run at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds (closing on the 30th January 2016), the musical will be heading off on a UK tour, opening at the Southampton Mayflower on the 10th February 2016.
