Cast Announced for Around the World in 80 Days at St James theatre

St James Theatre has today announced casting for Around the World in 80 Days , arriving at the theatre from the 26th November to the 17th January 2016.

Leading the cast in the role of Phileas Fogg will be Robert Portal who recent theatre credits include Communicating Doors (Menier Chocolate Factory) and The Doctor’s Dilemma (National Theatre). Portal has taken part in challenges that are similar to Fogg’s quest, for example rowing 3000 miles across the Atlantic as part of The Talisker Whiskey Challenge and raising money for charity.

Joining him in the production will be Simon Gregor as Passepartout, Tony Gardner as Inspector Fix, Shanaya Rafaat as Mrs Aouda, Eben Figueiredo and Tim Steed in the ensemble. The final two members of the ensemble have yet to be announced.

The production is directed by Lucy Bailey, with music composed by Django Bates. Set design is by Anna Fleischle (Hangmen, Royal Court Theatre), lighting by Chris Davey and sound by Mic Pool. It is produced by Simon Friend Entertainment, St James Theatre Productions and Ros Povey Productions.

The extraordinarily wealthy Phileas Fogg wagers his life’s savings that he can go around the world in just eighty days. Audiences will be welcomed to join Fogg and his valet Passepartout as they travel from Victorian London to exotic lands in a race against the clock, having a number of adventures along the way. Watch in amazement as a cast of eight perform more than 100 different characters in this imagination filled adventure!
