Production images have been released today for the Chichester Festival Theatre’s major new season of Anton Chekhov’s early works. The season will include productions of The Seagull , Ivanov and Platonov.
These plays have been newly adapted by David Hare and the productions are directed by Jonathan Kent. The season will open on the 17th October, running until the 14th November and will see 23 actors playing 50 parts across the three plays.
Currently in previews, the cast of The Young Chekhov season have already worked together on the productions for the last three months and is the first time on this scale that audiences have the opportunity to see all three shows in close proximity performed by the same group and created by the same creative team.
The cast for this unique season includes: Emma Amos, Lucy Briers, Anna Chancellor, Jonathan Coy, Adrian Lukis, Mark Penfold and Samuel West.
Audiences can experience the plays in a variety of ways, whether it is as a single performance or as one event, on different days or as one theatrical event on trilogy days. The season will also have over 5000 tickets available for £10 across the entire season, allowing audiences to see all three productions from as little as £30.
Jonathan Kent returns the Chichester Festival Theatre following his hugely acclaimed production of Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton at the theatre in 2014. This Young Chekhov season reunites Kent with David Hare, who have previously collaborated on productions for the Almeida Theatre.
All of the plays selected for this season of work by Anton Chekhov offer a different perspective of the dramatist and reveals a youthful anger that is in complete contrast to his later and more familiar work.
The Young Chekhov season is currently in previews and will continue to perform at the Chichester Festival Theatre until the 14th November.
