West End Premiere Announced for Disney’s Aladdin

Disney have announced that the Tony-Award winning musical production Aladdin will be making its West End debut in June 2016 at the Prince Edward Theatre, with previews from Friday 27th May.

To sign up for exclusive access to the priority booking period, which opens on the 23rd October, people should visit: http://www.aladdinthemusical.co.uk/ . Tickets will then go on general sale to the public from Monday the 23rd November and are available for performances until the 1st October 2016.

It has also been announced that Broadway cast member Trevor Dion Nicholas will be making his London stage debut as Genie, with full the full cast to be announced soon.

Thomas Schumacher, President and Producer of Disney Theatrical Productions said: ” We are thrilled to fly Aladdin’s carpet to London where the show has found its ideal home in Cameron Mackintosh’s stunning Prince Edward Theatre.” 

As well as featuring songs from the classic 1992 animated film such as ‘Friend Like Me’ and ‘A Whole New World’ , the production will also feature new music written by Tony and Olivier winner Alan Menken and lyrics by two time Oscar winner Howard Ashman, three time Oscar winner Tim Rice and four time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin – who also wrote the book.

The production is directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon). Among the production team are illusion designer Jim Steinmeyer, scenic designer Bob Crowley, lighting designer Natasha Katz, costume designer Gregg Barnes and sound designer Ken Travis.

Aladdin is heading into its second year on Broadway, currently performing at the New Amsterdam Theatre, the production has also opened in Tokyo earlier this year and will have its European premiere in Hamburg in December 2015.

Other Disney Theatrical productions to be staged in the West End includes Shakespeare in Love, as well as the Olivier Award winning productions of Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins and The Lion King which is heading to its 17th year at the Lyceum Theatre in London.

Aladdin will open for previews at the Prince Edward Theatre on the 27th May and will be booking until the 1st October 2016, when ticket sales open to the public on the 23rd November.
