Olivier Award-winning GoodNight Mister Tom Announces Full Cast and UK Tour

Producers of the hit production Goodnight Mister Tom  have announced the full cast led by David Troughton (Tom Oakley) as well as details of a UK following the limited season at the Duke of York’s Theatre this Christmas.

The Chichester Festival Theatre Olivier Award-Winning production will open at the Manchester Opera House before heading to Milton Keynes Theatre, Glasgow Theatre Royal, Birmingham New Alexandra Theatre, Oxford New Theatre, York Grand Opera House, Richmond Theatre, Aylesbury Waterside, Woking New Victoria, Bath Theatre Royal, Cambridge, Cardiff New Theatre and Newcastle Theatre Royal.

Based on Michelle Magorian’s classic children’s book, Goodnight Mister Tom is a heartwarming story that follows William Beech, who is evacuated to the countryside and forges a friendship with elderly recluse, Tom Oakley.

David Wood’s adaptation was warmly received during 2012/2013, going on to win the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and Family.

Joining David Troughton in cast will be an ensemble cast made up of: Clark Devlin, Elisa de Grey, Guy Lewis, Simon Markey, Abigail Matthews, Jane Milligan, Martha Seignior, James Staddon, Melle Stewart, Georgina Sutton and Hollie Taylor.

Meanwhile, six young performers have been selected to play the key roles of William and Zach. Joe Reynolds, Freddy Hawkins and Alex Taylor-McDowall will alternate the role of William and Sonny Kirby, Harrison Noble and Oliver Loades will alternate as Zach.

The production is directed by Angus Jackson, whose previous work includes Oppenheimer for the RSC Swan and Vaudeville Theatre and King Lear for Chichester and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It will include designs by Robert Innes Hopkins, lighting by Tim Mitchell, sound by Gregory Clarke, music composed by Matthew Scott and puppetry by Toby Olié.

Magorian’s novel has inspired generations for the last 35 years and was most memorably brought to life in the BAFTA- winning TV film, starring John Thaw in the central role of Tom Oakley.
