Sadler’s Wells begins 2016 with the return of their dance taster festival Sadler’s Wells Sampled that will feature workshop and foyer activities as well as a broad range of dance shows from the 29th to the 30th January.
Having been a part of the Sadler’s Wells programme since 2007, the festival features a wide variety of dance from ballet to hip hop, contemporary to tango.
Alongside the programme of shows available to watch, audiences can also take part in a variety of beginners programmes throughout the day on the 29th January with styles on offer including ballet, street dance and flamenco.
The 2016 programme will include Company Wayne McGregor performing Outlier, choreographed by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Wayne McGregor to the violin concerto Concentric Paths.
The Ruggeds from the Netherlands return to Sadler’s Wells to present the high octane Adrenaline. The piece received its world premiere at Breakin’ Convention in 2015 and the company will have a UK tour later this year.
Meanwhile, BBC Young Dancer winner Connor Scott and finalist Vidya Patel, winner of the South Asian Category will also appear in the festival. For this performance Scott will be performing a solo piece titled Get Up, while finalist Patel will present the duet Khoi –The Search.
Julia Hiriart Urruty and Claudio González, two dancers from the Sadler’s Wells Production m¡longa choreographed by Sadler’s Wells Associate ArtistSidi Larbi Cherkaoui introduce the popular Latin American dance of Argentine tango.
Meanwhile the workshops taking place include a contemporary dance workshop with dancers from Company Wayne McGregor; an Argentine tango workshop led byJulia Hiriart Urruty and Claudio González; hip hop with Birdgang Dance Company; contemporary with New Adventures & Re:Bourne, exploring some of Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Matthew Bourne’s creative techniques; classical Indian with Seeta Patel; and ballet with English National Ballet’s Youth Company.
