This latest screening as part of the Exhibition on Screen series, focuses on the world’s largest collection of Renoir’s works held at The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia.
Known and loved for his impressionist paintings of Paris, Pierre-Auguste Renoir grew tired of this style and changed course. This latest film reveals and charts the course that he took and why it provokes a strong reaction today.
Based on the extraordinary collection at The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, this film provides a refreshing look at this extraordinary painter as well as uncovering the rarely told story that places Renoir and his work as a link between the old and the new.
The film will allow audiences a unique and completely unrestricted insight into the unique collection that was amassed by Dr. Albert C. Barnes, who admired Renoir above any other artist.
It is a rare opportunity to see the 181 works that are never loaned and have never travelled to the UK.
Renoir: Revered and Reviled will appear in cinemas across the UK from the 16th February, before an international release on the 15th March.
