To open the Theatre Royal Stratford East’s 2016 season comes Peter Arnott’s production about one of the most famous women in rock: Janis Joplin.

By mixing theatre with the atmosphere of a rock gig, audiences will be taken on a rollercoaster of a journey that charts Joplin’s rise to fame while dealing with emotional turmoil.

The production will star Angie Darcy in the title role, with Hannah Jarrett Scott performing the role at some performances as well as Harry Ward. It is directed by Cora Bissett.

Talking about Janis Joplin: Full Tilt, director Cora Bissett said: “Janis Joplin: Full Tilt is a rollercoaster kiss ass thunderbolt of a show. It doesn’t let up for one second, following the intense, compact life of one of rock’s most formidable but tragically short lived female icons.”

Full Tilt has won numerous awards including a Best Female Performance award for Angie Darcy in the 2014 Musical Theatre Network Awards. It has also won awards from the Scottish Arts Club Awards for a play of outstanding quality and the Edinburgh Arts Guild Award for best production.

Kerry Michael, Artistic Director at Theatre Royal Stratford East said: “Our manifesto at Theatre Royal Stratford East is to develop new writing in British Theatre through a variety of music genres. Janis Joplin: Full Tilt has done this with ease, merging a powerful story of a legendary icon and her incredible music.”

Janis Joplin: Full Tilt will run at the Theatre Royal Stratford East from the 10th February to the 5th March. Tickets cost from £5 to £22.50 with concessions available. For more information and to book tickets visit: http://www.stratfordeast.com/whats-on/all-shows/janis-joplin-full-tilt/
