Following on from hugely successful runs at the Theatre Royal Bath, the Tricycle Theatre and Wyndham’s Theatre, Florian Zeller’s play The Father is set to return to the West End for a limited season only it has been announced.
Florian Zeller’s play, directed by James Macdonald will open for performances at the Duke of York’s Theatre from the 24th February to the 26th March, before embarking on a UK tour.
This return to the West End will also see Kenneth Cranham reprise his role as Andre, with the rest of the cast yet to be announced.
The story follows 80 year old Andre who was once a tap dancer. He lives with his daughter Anne and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover Pierre? But the thing is he is still in his pyjamas and he can’t find his watch – is he starting to lose control?
Florian Zeller is becoming widely popular as one of France’s most popular contemporary playwrights. Both plays The Mother and The Father have won the Moliere award.
Director James MacDonald’s credits include Exiles at the National Theatre,Glengarry Glen Ross in the West End and he was the Associate Director of the Royal Court Theatre from 1992 to 2007.
Kenneth Cranham’s numerous stage credits also include The Cherry Orchard at the National Theatre, The Homecoming at the Almeida and West End productions of Entertaining Mr Sloane, Loot, The Birthday Party and Gaslight.
