Casting Announced for Emma Rice’s Inaugural Season at Shakespeare’s Globe

The Shakespeare’s Globe has announced casting for Emma Rice’s first season as Artistic Director at the theatre. Here is a full list of details of the cast for A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth. 

A Midsummer Night’s Dream: 30th April – 11th September – opening the Shakespeare’s Globe new  season will be a new production of Shakespeare’s comedy directed by Emma Rice. The cast will include singing sensation Meow Meow as Titania,  Katy Owen as Puck and Ewan Wardrop as Bottom.

Other cast members will include: Ankur Bahl,Nandi Bhebhe, Edmund Derrington,Ncuti Gatwa,Lucy Thackeray and Anjana Vasan – with further casting yet to be announced.

The production will feature Tanika Gupta as Dramaturg, set designs by Börkur Jónsson and costume designs by Moritz Junge.

My! The woods outside Athens are a busy place on this magical night! Four runaway lovers find themselves smack bang in the middle of a dispute between the King and Queen of the fairies, and, as if that wasn’t enough, a troupe of amateur actors are trying to rehearse a play. Between these unlikely groups flies Puck, armed only with a wicked sense of humour and a love potion capable of making anyone fall for the first person they set eyes upon. What could possibly go wrong?

Macbeth: 18th June – 1st October – following on from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Iqbal Khan’s production of Shakespeare’s tragedy will see Ray Fearon taking on the title role, with Tara Fitzgerald playing Lady Macbeth. Further casting has yet to be announced.

The production will feature set and lighting designed by Ciaran Bagnall and costumes designed by Joan O’Cleary.

On a barren heath, three sisters tell the great and bloodied Macbeth that he is fated to be King of Scotland. And so begins a terrifying series of events that lead to the murder of Kings, friends, mothers and their children. Macbeth and his Lady fall prey to a soul-corroding guilt as they desperately try and cling to the defiled crown.

Casting for The Taming of the Shrew and Imogen, the other productions in Emma Rice’s Wonder season have yet to be announced.
