Casting has been announced for the world premiere production of a new musical penned by Dougal Irvine, arriving at the Park Theatre in April.
Directed by Lotte Wakeham (Sweet Charity, Matilda), this brand new British musical is set to star Olivier Award-winning George Maguire as ‘MacHeath’ and Lauren Samuels as ‘Polly Peachum’.
London, 2012. The night before the Opening Ceremony. A group of street performers called ‘the 99percenters,’ gather in protest against the over-priced, corporate games. Among them is Macheath, satirist and ladies’ man, whose razor sharp wit is slashing chunks out of the Mayor’s reputation. Powerful figures are watching. With the ever influential media operating twenty-four-seven, capital punishment has found a new method of delivery.
The production, inspired by The Beggar’s Opera by John Gay, will also include in its cast Natasha Cotriall as ‘Lucy Lockitt’, John McCrea as ‘Flitch’, Maimuna Memon as ‘Jenny Diver’ and Giovanna Ryan as ‘Susan’.
The Buskers Opera will include in its creative team: musical direction by Sean Green, musical staging and choreography by Lucie Pankhurst, lighting design by Christopher Nairne and sound design by Andy Graham.
This brand new musical comes to the stage courtesy of Dougal Irvine, whose previous work includes The Snow Queen and Departure Lounge.
The Buskers Opera will run at the Park Theatre from the 28th April until the 4th June 2016.
