PREVIEW: By the End of Us, Southwark Playhouse

Combining live theatre with a video game type experience, Block Stop‘s new show puts the audience in charge – meaning that every show is a unique experience.

Mia Culper is an assassin. Navigating her way through a series of underground chambers she must find and kill her target. Prepped with a camera and microphone Mia live streams her journey to a Contact, who guides and advises her through the mission, ensuring she achieves her objective.

With no pre-scripted events, this is a show that completely relies on the audience’s choices and live reactions, meaning that the game can either by tragic, hilarious or intense.

Block Stop’s show last had a successful run in November 2015 at the Southwark Playhouse, but is returning bigger and bolder than before. By the End of Us follows on from previous successful games such as Dead Wait (Soho Theatre and Pleasance Theatre July 2014), Final Call  (Wellcome Collection July 2015) and Counter Call (VAULT Festival  February/March 2016).

The production has been created, designed and produced by Block Stop, with tech and set management by Oli Black. By the End of Us will be performed by Ilayda Arden, Melanie Grossenbacher, Kal Sabir and Daniel Thompson.

Block Stop is formed of four theatre makers and game designers who have been working together since 2012, staging live events during which participants simultaneously experience both video gaming and theatre.

By the End of Us will appear at the Southwark Playhouse from the 7th to the 11th June. For more information and to book tickets visit: http://southwarkplayhouse.co.uk/show/by-the-end-of-us/#details
