The production will feature an all Irish company, marking the centenary of the Easter rising by revisiting 1916 Ireland and remembering the role that women played in the fight for independence.

Two sisters are being married off. Bianca is hell-bent on it and can’t wait to fly the nest. Kate, on the other hand, balks at the thought of losing her independence and struggles to think of anything worse. That’s all well and good, but Kate has to marry first for Bianca to be allowed. And whilst Bianca has no shortage of offers, who will get hitched to Kate, the fabulous and ungovernable shrew? Perhaps Petruchio might take her on for a bet: he’s a bit of a gold-digger and as wild and rebellious as our Kate…

Capturing the rebellious spirit as Katherine, will be Kathy Rose O’Brien (Baddies the Musical , In Skagway) with Edward MacLiam (Deluge, Terra) as Petruchio.

The cast will also include Imogen Doel playing Tranio, Genevieve Hulme- Beaman as Bianca, Aaron Heffernan as Lucentio  and Helen Norton as Grumio.

Director Caroline Byrne  was previously Associate Director at the Gate Theatre. Her previous credits include Parallel Macbeth (Young Vic), Eclipsed (Gate Theatre) and Macbeth (Chapter Arts).

The production will feature designs by Chiara Stephenson, choreography by Emma Martin, lighting by Natasha Chivers and sound by George Dennis.

The Taming of the Shrew will play at the Shakespeare’s Globe from the 13th May to the 6th August. For more information and to book tickets visit: http://www.shakespearesglobe.com/theatre/whats-on/globe-theatre/the-taming-of-the-shrew-2016
