It has been confirmed today that the Tony Award winning production of An American in Paris will transfer to London’s Dominion Theatre in 2017.

Inspired by the Oscar winning film, Christopher Wheeldon’s multi award winning new Broadway musical will hit London’s Dominion Theatre from the 4th March 2017.

Jerry Mulligan is an American GI striving to make it as a painter in a city suddenly bursting with hope and possibility. Following a chance encounter with a beautiful young dancer named Lise, the streets of Paris become the backdrop to a sensuous, modern romance of art, friendship and love in the aftermath of war…

Featuring many of George and Ira Gershwin’s classic songs such as I Got Rhythm, ‘S Wonderful, and They Can’t Take That Away From Me, An American in Paris won four Tony Awards including Best Choreographer for Christopher Wheeldon.

The cast will include Robert Fairchild (Jerry) and Leanne Cope (Lise) revisit their roles that they originated on Broadway and make their West End debuts, leading a cast of over 50 actors, dancers and musicians. Further casting has yet to be announced.

An American in Paris is directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, a book by Craig Lucas, set and costume designs by Bob Crowley, lighting by Natasha Katz and sound by Jon Weston.

The musical is based on the Oscar winning film, which starred Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron, originally opening at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris  in 2014 to ecstatic reviews before transferring to The Palace Theatre on Broadway.
