Jude Law to Star in Obsession at the Barbican

British actor Jude Law is set to make a return to the stage in Ivo van Hove’s production of Obsession, set to run at the Barbican from the 19th April to the 20th May 2017.

The production will arrive at the London theatre following a run at the Toneelgroep Amsterdam, and will be one of four van Hove productions to be seen at the Barbican in 2017. The other shows he will be directing includes: Coriolanus, Julius Caesar and Cleopatra, alongside a double bill of ‘After the Rehearsal’ and ‘Persona’ based on the films of Ingmar Bergman.

Ivo van Hove has recently been nominated for a number of Tony awards for  his revivals of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible as well as A View From the Bridge, both of which originated at the Young Vic Theatre in London before having successful transfers to New York.

For this production Jude Law will play the role of Gino, who encounters Giuseppe and his wife Giovanna at their roadside restaurant and petrol station. He and Giovanna are so irresistibly attracted to one another they begin an affair while plotting to murder her husband. But the crime does not unite them in this chilling story where passion can lead only to destruction.

The actor was last seen in the West End as part of Michael Grandage’s season at the Noel Coward Theatre, where he played the role of Henry V in 2013.

The production will feature an adaptation and dramaturgy by Jan Peter Gerrits, as well as set design and lighting by Jan Versweyveld. Further casting has yet to be announced.

Obsession will appear at the Barbican Theatre from the 19th April to the 20th May 2017. For more information visit: http://theatre.barbican.org.uk/1-event-obsession.html
