The Royal Opera House will present a new production of Verdi’s Il Trovatore, which will come to the stage from the 2nd to the 17th July.
This new production will be directed by David Bösch, who will be making his Royal Opera debut with this version of Verdi’s opera.
The Count di Luna loves Leonora, but she loves Manrico, the Count’s military enemy. Manrico’s mother Azucena tells him how her mother was burnt to death for supposed witchcraft against the Count’s baby brother. Azucena intended to throw the baby onto the fire – but blinded by revenge she lost her own child to the flames.
Il Trovatore will be conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, who is also making his Royal Opera House debut.
The production will be double cast. Sharing the role of Count di Luna are Zeljko Ludié and Christopher Maltman . This production is double cast. Sharing the role of Manrico are Italian tenor Francesco Meli and American tenor Gregory Kunde. Italian bass Maurizio Muraro sings the role of Ferrando for all performances. Sharing the role of Ines are Jette Parker Young Artists Irish soprano Jennifer Davis and Australian soprano Lauren Fagan. The role of Ruiz is sung by Jette Parker Young Artist and Korean tenor David Junghoon Kim.
