The renowned choreographer and director is to direct the world premiere of new rock musical 27, which will run at the Cockpit Theatre from the 8th September until the 22nd October.
This new musical to hit the London stage follows the story of Orpheus, a would-be rock star whose fame and notoriety take him on a journey of self-destruction, following in the footsteps of the likes of Hendrix, Winehouse and Cobain – all of whom died at the age of 27.
Co-directed by Sam Cassidy, 27 features 13 musical numbers performed by a cast of 15. It examines how fragile life is and the connections that bring us together, told through original lyrics and score.
Casting for the production has yet to be confirmed.
Talking about her involvement in the show Arlene Phillips said” It is a musical that could connect to so many people of different ages. The musical appeals to me because it was written by a young writer, Sam Cassidy, who has the power in his music to take the audience from one moment of joy to instant tears of sorrow.”
The musical is produced by Adam Pritchard, Sam Cassidy and Nick Eve on behalf of 27 Musical London Limited.
27 will appear at the Cockpit Theatre in Marylebone from the 8th September until the 22nd October. For more information and to book tickets visit: http://www.thecockpit.org.uk/show/27.
