NEWS: First London Production Since 1969 of Promises,Promises Announced

The hit Broadway musical Promises, Promises will have its first London production since 1969 at the Southwark Playhouse from January 2017 it has been announced.

Based on the 1960 film The Apartment directed by Billy Wilder, Promises Promises is heading to London for the first time in 48 years when it opens at the Southwark Playhouse in January 2017.

Featuring music by Burt Bacharach and lyrics by Hal David and a book by Neil Simon, the musical follows the story of a junior executive at an insurance company who sets out to climb the corporate ladder by allowing his apartment to be used by his married superiors for extra marital affairs.

Promises, Promises is produced by Aria Entertainment and SENBLA,and  based on the original 1960 film that was produced and directed by Billy Wilder as a follow up to the classic film Some Like it Hot.

The Broadway production of the musical premiered in 1968 and ran for 1,281 performances. A West End production opened in 1969 featuring Tony Roberts and Betty Buckley. The cast album won the Grammy Award for best cast recording, and a song from the show, I’ll Never Fall in Love Again, became a hit single for Dionne Warwick.

It was last seen on Broadway in 2010 in a revival starring Will & Grace’s Sean Hayes and Wicked star Kristin Chenoweth. This recent production included two additional Bacharach-David songs, I Say a Little Prayer, a 1967 million-selling hit written for Dionne Warwick, and A House Is Not a Home – and  will also be in the new London production.

Tickets for the production will go on sale to the public from the 13th July. The cast and creative team have yet to be announced.
