From the 1st September until the 1st October, the Trafalgar Studios will be the home of the European premiere of Vanities: The Musical.
This new production will see Lauren Samuels, Ashleigh Gray and Lizzy Connolly starring in this tale of three best friends growing up in Dallas.
By using an original score, which blends 1960’s and 1970’s girl group harmonies with contemporary musical theatre, Vanities: The Musical makes its London debut in time to mark the 10th anniversary of the musical and the 40th anniversary of the play.
It arrives in the capital following successful runs in Seattle, Houston, New York, and Los Angeles, in this new production directed and choreographed by Racky Plews (Footloose, American Idiot).
The musical will whisk audiences back to 1963 to watch Mary, Kathy and Joanne obsessing over their cheerleading routines, selecting their sororities and plan their wedding outfits – despite the President being shot and America on the brink of war and as long as the girls keep their looks and remain popular everything is going to be ok…right?
Jack Heifner (book) and David Kirshenbaum (music and lyrics) comment: “On the fortieth anniversary of the play Vanities, there’s no better gift than having the musical version of the play open in London. This isn’t just an American musical. It is a look into the lives of three girls who see nothing deeper than their reflection in the mirror.”
As well as being directed and choreographed by Racky Plews, the creative team also includes designs by Andrew Riley, sound by James Nicholson and lighting by Tim Deiling.
