Iconic Paintings by Turner Return to Tate Britain

Following an extensive international tour, several paintings by JMW Turner have returned to the gallery, having travelled over 12,000 miles.

As one of the best known British artists of all time JMW Turner’s work is still considered to be fascinating to people across the world. Now having been seen by ver three-quarters of a million people in the UK, USA and Canada as part of The EY Exhibition: Late Turner – Painting Set Free , these masterpieces are now back at Tate Britain.

Now on display at the gallery in a new and free exhibition, with returning works including Norham Castle – Sunrise c.1845, Peace – Burial at Sea exhib.1842, and The Dogano, San Giorgio exhib.1842.This new show features over 100 works, displayed across eight rooms of the Clore Gallery at Tate Britain.

Turner is considered to be a key figure in the history of painting and a source of inspiration to many generations of artists. The central space of the Clore gallery will present an overview of the masterpieces that he exhibited during his lifetime.

Meanwhile, on either side of this central display will be four smaller galleries that will present themed groups of work. While one room will bring together work that concentrate on his travels across Britain, another will focus on his travels across Europe. There will also be a space devoted to a group of the radical late works found in the artist’s studio after his death are shown together and a new display of of the artist’s works on paper, chosen from the thousands of sketches and watercolours held in Tate Britain’s Prints and Drawings Room.

The Turner Collection is on display now at Tate Britain.
