NEWS: Gods and Monster to Present The Wawel Dragon at The Scoop

The theatre company will celebrate Polish folklore with a production of The Wawel Dragon at The Scoop from the 31st August until the 25th September.

Performing as part of London’s free open-air theatre season, this change in the programme, sees Gods and Monsters offering 20,000 free seats to this family production which celebrates Poland’s mythology.

Gods and Monsters will be collaborating with Polish theatre maker Nastazja Domaradzka to bring to lifelife Krakow’s Dragon of Wawel, one of Poland’s most enduring, much loved and iconic myths.

Talking about the news director Phil Willmott said: ” This summer we are delighted to now be presenting a big family show celebrating one of Poland’s most enduring legends. We are very proud of our proven track record playing to London’s youngest and most culturally diverse audience by sharing the great works of our capital’s various communities to 40,000 people a year.”

The Wawel Dragon tells the story of ingenious and daring folk who tried to defeat the dragon beneath Wawel castle, which to this day is a popular visitor attraction.

This production will play alongside the previously announced a new rock musical of Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment, with songs by the legendary Toyah Willcox and her song-writing partner Simon Darlow.

London’s Free Open-Air Theatre season offers 40,000 free tickets for theatre at the heart of the city. Running from 2003, it is the only free festival of theatre for which all you have to do is turn up and take a seat and is part of London Bridge City Summer Festival which runs 1st June – 31st October 2016.

The Wawel Dragon will run at The Scoop from the 31st August until the 25th September, Wednesday to Sunday. 

The Scoop is located on the south bank of the River Thames, between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, next to City Hall.
