The Star by Hackney Downs is throwing an outdoor party in celebration of summer on Saturday 27th August.
Taking place from 12 noon until 8pm, the day-long festival is a family friendly event – including the return of the Hackney Playbus and other entertainment for children to enjoy throughout the day.
For adults, there will be plenty of drink thanks to a bar that will be set up on the green, while a street food market will be provided to keep people’s appetite at bay.
A variety of food will be available including resident meat smokers at the Star of Bethnal Green The Joint serving up their irresistible slow cooked meats and Mama jerk providing some modern Jamaican spice. They’ll be joined by the likes of Wandercrust serving up some exceptional Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas (with a playful twist) straight out of their van. Meanwhile if you have a sweet tooth you can get stuck into Sorbitum Ices, hailed as ‘London’s best ice cream’.
The festival will have a community vibe about it, with community stalls being dotted around the area, with the likes of environmental education charity ecoACTIVE, Oxjam, and the Hackney Mosaic Project all making an appearance.
In terms of music, Andy Taylor of resident music makers We Are The Sunset, who rock the The Star pub regularly will provide the tunes throughout the day. Acts performing will include Leo Mas (Amne-sia, Ibiza), Andy Pye (Balearic Social)Joe Gill (Outlaws /Zmatsutsi).
Hackney Downs Free Festival will take place on Saturday 27th August from 12-8pm.
