David Bowie and Edna Walsh’s musical will arrive at London’s King’s Cross Theatre from the 25th October.
The musical will receive its European premiere following a sold out run in New York from the 15th November 2015 to the 20th January 2016. Now ahead of its run at the King’s Cross Theatre, full casting for the London production has been confirmed.
Directed by Ivo van Hove, the production will star Gabrielle Brooks, Sydnie Christmas, Richard Hansell, Amy Lennox, Maimuna Memon, Jamie Muscato, Tom Parsons and Julie Yammanee, who join the previously announced Michael C Hall, Michael Esper and Sophia Anne Caruso, who are reprising their roles from the original New York Theatre Workshop production.
Inspired by the book The Man Who Fell To Earth, Lazarus is a story which folllows Thomas Newton, a man who is unable to die – haunted by a lost love and with only gin to take his mind off it. The plot follows him as he meets another lost soul might set him finally free.
Lazarus features a number of songs from David Bowie’s back catalogue as well as music which has been specifically written for the musical. The cast album will be released on the 21st October – featuring performances from the original New York Theatre Workshop production.
Michael C Hall reprises his role as Newton for the London production, playing the role that David Bowie played in the 1976 screen adaptation. His other credits include the title character in the Broadway production of Hedwig And The Angry Inch and Will Eno’s Broadway production of The Realistic Jones.
Michael Esper will play Valentine. His previous stage work includes Sting’s musical The Last Ship, American Idiot, The Lyons and A Man For All Seasons.
Amy Lennox has most recently appeared in the hugely popular London production of Kinky Boots, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award for her portrayal of Lauren.ther stage work includes Legally Blonde (Savoy Theatre and UK Tour) and 9 To 5 (UK Tour).
The production will feature scenic and lighting design by Jan Versweyveld, costume design by An D’Huys, video design by Tal Yarden and choreography by Annie-B Parson.
