Review Round Up: La Fille Mal Gardee, Royal Opera House

Frederick Ashton’s ballet is brought to life once again and opening the Royal Ballet’s new season at the Royal Opera House.

The Independent: **** “Warmth comes glowing off the stage in this Royal Ballet performance of Frederick Ashton’s ballet, an enchanting blend of sweetness and brilliant dancing.”

The Stage: **** “Warming, cheerful and charming production of Ashton’s provincial tale.”

The Telegraph: ***** “an ensemble performance of 24-carat enchantment.”

British Theatre Guide: “the choreography, Ashton’s steps, is as bright and crisp and clear as daylight, as fresh as the day it was minted.”

The Arts Desk: “You’ll go home humming, and smiling; you might even think that the world isn’t such a very terrible place really.”

Considered to be Frederick Ashton’s is one of his best loved creations. It was his final full length ballet and was based on a 1789 French ballet originally created by Jean Dauberval and was a huge success when it originally premiered in 1960 and has remained a favourite ever since in the Royal Ballet repertoire.
