Sonia Friedman productions has today released production images from the anticipated premiere of Dreamgirls, which officially opens at the Savoy Theatre on the 14th December.

Having opened for previews on the 19th November, Dreamgirls stars Amber Riley Effie White along with Liisi LaFontaine as Deena Jones and Ibinabo Jack as Lorrell Robinson making up the soulful singing trio ‘The Dreams’.

The cast also includes Joe Aaron Reid plays Curtis Taylor Jr, Adam J. Bernard plays Jimmy Early, Tyrone Huntley plays C.C. White, Nicholas Bailey plays Marty and Lily Frazer plays Michelle Morris with Ruth Brown and Karen Mav alternating the role of Effie White at performances when Amber Riley is not scheduled to perform.

This UK premiere production is directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw ((The Book of Mormon, Disney’s Aladdinand Something Rotten!). It also features set design by Tim Hatley, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone and sound design by Richard Brooker.

Dreamgirls has also partnered with Swarovski, who have provided over one million Swarovski crystals have been incorporated into the production, adorning 275 costumes and 3 crystal curtains.
Dreamgirls transports you to a revolutionary time in American music history. Dreamgirls charts the tumultuous journey of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called ‘The Dreams’, as they learn the hard lesson that show business is as tough as it is fabulous, and features the classic songs ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’, ‘I Am Changing’, ‘Listen’ and ‘One Night Only’ .
The musical features a book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and Music by Henry Kriege. It was originally opened on Broadway in 1981, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett going on to win six Tony Awards. In 2006, Dreamgirls was made into Oscar winning film starring Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx.
