First Glimpse of…. Death Takes a Holiday

The first song and video for the European premiere of Death Takes a Holiday which plays at the Charing Cross Theatre from the 16th January has been released.

The song More and More is performed in the above video by Chris Peluso and Zoe Doano, who along with Maxwell Caulfield head the cast for Thom Southerland’s production.

This eagerly awaited premiere of the musical features a score by multi Tony Award-winner Maury Yeston (Titanic, Nine) as well as a book by Thomas Meehan and Peter Stone.

Death Takes a Holiday is based on a 1928 Italian play of the same name, which also went on to inspire the film Meet Joe Black which starred Brad Pitt.

In Northern Italy, shortly after World War One, Death disguises himself as a handsome young prince to try to understand why life is so precious and death so feared. But when he unexpectedly falls in love with a newly engaged young woman, this mysterious stranger discovers that love may in fact be stronger than death.

When the musical premiered Off-Broadway in 2011, it was nominated 11 Drama Desk Awards.

Maxwell Caulfield originally made his west end debut playing Billy Flynn in Chicago and subsequently played the role on Broadway. He recently starred as Nathan Detroit in the No1 tour of Chichester Festival Theatre’s Guys & Dolls.

Zoe Doano has recently just completed a year in the role of Cosette in the hit production of Les Miserables. She has previously worked with Thom Southerland when she appeared in his production of Jerry Herman’s The Grand Tour.

Appearing in Death Takes a Holiday until the 11th February, Chris Peluso made his West End debut in the hugely popular revival of Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre, before going on to appear as Gaylord Ravenal in Showboat at the New London Theatre.

The production features set designs by Morgan Large, costume design by Jonathan Lipman, lighting design by Matt Daw,  sound design by Andrew Johnson and choreography by Sam Spencer-Lane.

This is the third Charing Cross Theatre production, following on from Titanic and Ragtime,  and is produced by Danielle Tarento, Steven M. Levy, Sean Sweeney and Vaughan Williams.
