The Royal Academy of Arts has announced the artists taking part in the 2017 Summer Exhibition which is on display from the 13th June.
Co-ordinated by Royal Academician Eileen Cooper, the 249th Summer Exhibition will showcase her experience and knowledge of diverse practices. For the exhibition, Cooper will invite a larger range of artists from across the globe to exhibit as well as artists who work in a variety of media, celebrating the energy of the next generation.
In order to support this idea, Eileen Cooper and the Summer Exhibition Hanging Committee have invited a number of international artists to exhibit throughout the galleries. Invited artists include: Julie Born Schwartz, Hassan Hajjaj, Secundino Hernández, Isaac Julian, Tomoaki Suzuki and Mark Wallinger.
It was also confirmed that this Summer Exhibition will also be the first to include performance art. This year’s exhibition will include Yinka Shonibare RA’s Wind Sculpture VI in the Royal Academy’s Annenberg Courtyard.
The Architecture Gallery will be curated by Farshid Moussavi RA and will for the first time celebrate architecture by focusing on construction coordination drawings.
Other Royal Academicians to feature in this year’s display will include Gilbert & George, who will be showing a new large-scale work from their ‘Beard Speak’ series, along with Phyllida Barlow, Antony Gormley, Sean Scully, Bob and Roberta Smith and Wolfgang Tillmans. Honorary Academicians include Marina Abramović, Jim Dine and Mimmo Paladino.
The Summer Exhibition will feature 1200 pieces of art, many of which will be available to buy.
