For the first time the Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Royal Albert Hall will present The Nutcracker from the 28th to the 31st December.
For this production of the family festive favourite, the Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Royal Albert Hall will use state-of-the-art technology to create a magical winter wonderland.
Audiences will join Clara in the Victorian setting of her family home. As midnight strikes, the magical Christmas tree grows and grows, Clara’s nutcracker doll and his army of toy soldiers come to life, and Clara is swept away into a fantasy adventure through an enchanting winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes to the magical Kingdom of the Sweets.
This magical production will feature a magical transformation scene, 75kg of artificial snow and ground-breaking new projections from the award-winning 59 Productions (An American in Paris, London 2012’s opening ceremony) and will be performed by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s 70 world-class dancers and a full symphony orchestra.
Talking about the news Lucy Noble, Artistic Director at the Royal Albert Hall, said: “We’re so excited to announce this unique festive treat for 2017: the world’s favourite Christmas ballet, specially adapted for the world’s most famous stage. There’s no place like the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate Christmas, and being able to welcome such a respected, well-loved and innovative production as part of our celebrations is a real thrill.”
The production features choreography by Sir Peter Wright, Vincent Redmon and Lev Ivanov (choreographer of the original 1892 production).
