Following a successful run at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2016, it has been announced that the musical based on  Luhrmann’s 1992 film will transfer to the Piccadilly Theatre from the 16th March 2018.

Directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie, Strictly Ballroom follows the story of Scott who defies all the rules of competition to follow his heart, as he teams up with left-footed partner Fran to win the Pan Pacifics his way.

The musical will feature songs such as  Love is in the AirPerhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Time After Time as well as  new songs from a host of internationally acclaimed artists.

Strictly Ballroom is based on a short play that Baz Luhrmann wrote while he was a student at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney in the ‘80s, before later being made into a film.

Casting for the London production has yet to be confirmed.

The production features a book by Baz Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, costume design by Catherine Martin, set design by Soutra Gilmour, sound by Gareth Owen and lighting by Howard Hudson.
