PREVIEW: Dead and Breathing, Albany Theatre

Chisa Hutchinson’s play will perform at the London theatre from the 20th February 2018 following a run at Unity Theatre in Liverpool.

Dead and Breathing

Spiteful old Carolyn Whitlock wants to die already. She’s been sick with cancer for almost as long as she can remember and the pain has made her so mean that there’s no one left who loves her. She just wants to give up, but now she’s going to have to work harder than she ever has in her privileged life to convince her very Christian nurse to help her end it. But Veronika isn’t all she seems and before Carolyn can die in peace, they’ll both need to let go of everything they believe about what is right.

Directed by Rebecca Atkinson-Lord, Dead and Breathing is a tale of morality and mortality that places the right to die  against the right to live on your own terms.

This dark comedy investigates morality, mortality, and the intense tug-of-war between the right to die with dignity and the idea of life as a gift.

The two hander is set to star Lizan Mitchell (TV: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Good Wife, The Wire. BroadwayElectra, Having Our Say, So Long on Lonely Street) and Kim Tatum aka Mzz Kimberley ( EastEnders and Cold Feet, Project Cat Walk, Summer; Theatre Royal Stratford East).

The production sees award winning film and theatre maker Rebecca Atkinson-Lord and multi award winning playwright Chisa Hutchinson collaborating once more following ‘Domesticity’ – the short film they recently made together which has just won the Best Short Film award at the Discover Film Festival in London and has been nominated for the Best Screenplay award at Underwire Festival.

Dead and Breathing will play at the Albany Theatre from the 20th February until the 3rd March. For more information visit: http://www.thealbany.org.uk/event_detail/2203/Theatre/Dead-and-Breathing
