Ian Bonar and Rob Watt will bring their show to London following its premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016.
Tom’s a mess. Mr Chambers keeps phoning asking for a Funeral Director. Tom is not a Funeral Director. This is how getting one digit wrong can change a person’s life, forever.
Conversations become confused. Memories start to intertwine and unravel, and two strangers unwittingly help each other to un-forget and connect to the people they loved.
Inspired Ian Bonar’s own experiences of his father’s death and finding his grandad’s cherished memoires, Bonar uses his grandad’s words to explore memory, grief and how we remember things.
Talking about the show Ian Bonar said: “Death is funny, right? When I found my Grandad’s journal it was fascinating and heart-breaking to see his memories literally disintegrate on the page as his mind began to fail him, and it made me think about my Dad, about what I wanted to forget about his death and the things I desperately wanted to remember about his life.”
Be Prepared was developed at The RSC Other Place and had its first full run at the RSC Fringe Festival. It was then selected to be part of Underbelly Untapped at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The show is directed by Rob Watt, with sound by Alex Crispin and lighting by Charlie Morgan Jones.
Be Prepared will play as part of the Vault Festival from the 7th to the 11th February. For more information and to book tickets visit: https://vaultfestival.com/whats-on/be-prepared/.
