The brand new musical directed by Susie McKenna set in Victorian London will play at the Hoxton Hall as part of its all-female spring season titled Female Parts.

Based on the original idea from Lil Warren, who has written the book and lyrics for the musical, Oranges & Elephants is a story of two rival female gangs that blends music hall, fairground and musical theatre storytelling.

The story follows Mary’s arrival in London and her introduction to gang life. How will she make her life expectancy of twenty-five when the two gangs are after owning her?

Mary wants to be a Music Hall star. Nellie of The Elephants falls in love with Mary and they try to escape from thievery to the bright lights of Piccadilly.

This is a story of how important your wits are to survive if you are poor and a woman in Victorian London. How you play the fame game set against a backdrop of a West End pickpocket turf war and an enormous divide between the rich and poor. “Same ol gravy, different flavour”.

Oranges & Elephants is directed by Susie McKenna and features a cast of of actor-musicians including:  Kate Adams (Flo), Rebecca Bainbridge (Ada), Susannah van den Berg (Chair), Rosalind Ford (Nora), Liz Kitchen (Annie), Natasha Lewis (Violet), Sinead Long (Mary), Kate Marlais (Maggie), Christina Tedders (Nellie) and Sarah J Warren (Minnie).

The creative team for the production features  music and arrangements by Jo Collins as well as designs by Sara Perks.

Oranges & Elephants plays at the Hoxton Hall from the 23rd January until the 10th February. For more information visit: https://www.hoxtonhall.co.uk/oranges-elephants-musical/
