Performing at the theatre from the 22nd March, Charles Court Opera’s take on Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic comedy masterpiece will be the company’s final production in the historic venue.

Behind the closed doors at the British Consulate in the town of Tipitu, Japan, the scheming, slippery Lord High Executioner is about to hatch one plot too far, with far-reaching and hilarious consequences for everyone involved, especially when the Mikado himself arrives…

Containing familiar songs including “A wandering minstrel, I”, “I’ve got a little list” and “Three little maids from school”, this punchy and hilarious satire promises to be a treat for operetta lovers and newcomers alike.

Director John Savournin said: “I’m very excited to be rediscovering this opera and looking at the setting with 21st century glasses on; to consider it’s place in today’s social climate, and to embrace afresh it’s humour, pathos, and the downright genius craftsmanship of one of Britain’s most prolific writing partnerships.”

The cast is set to include  Philip Lee (Clive the camel in King Tut – A Pyramid Panto) as Ko-Ko, with further casting to be announced.

The Mikado will play at the King’s Head Theatre from the 22nd March until the 21st April. For more information visit: http://www.kingsheadtheatre.com/
