Since 2015, the K-Music Showcase has presented Korean bands to London audiences. For one night only, fresh from appearances at Liverpool’s Sound City and just ahead of performing at Brighton’s The Great Escape, all of the three groups will entertain crowds at Shoreditch’s Rich Mix venue.

For 2018, the showcase will concentrate on three female fronted bands who have their own unique voices and music styles. Trained as a singer of pansori, ‘traditional Korean opera,’ Gonne Choi through her melodic voice takes inspiration from her everyday surroundings. The smoky voice of Nahm Sang-Ah from 3rd Line Butterfly, the legendary band from the Korean independent underground music scene, leads us to introspective post-modern rock partnered with moody guitars. Lead vocalist, Jiwon Kim, of Billy Carter delivers the band’s energetic rock sounds with lyrics about the everyday battles of life.

Talking about the upcoming performance, Korean Culture Centre UK’s director, Hoseong Yong said “We are so excited for Gonne Choi, 3rd Line Butterfly and Billy Carter to grace the legendary Rich Mix stage as part of the Korea-UK 2017-18, a year round cultural exchange programme between the two countries. This showcase will encapsulate a small piece of Korean musical history in London and we are so pleased that these three wonderful artists will be the face of it.”

The K Music Showcase will take place at Rich Mix from 7.30pm on the 10th May. For more information visit: https://www.richmix.org.uk/events/music/k-music-showcase
