First Look at…Tartuffe, Theatre Royal Haymarket

As Christopher Hampton’s adaptation of Moliere’s classic comedy prepares to open in the West End, production images have been released. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect….

French media tycoon Orgon has fallen under the seductive spell of Tartuffe, a radical American evangelist. So comprehensively has Tartuffe hoodwinked Orgon that he looks set to steal his fortune, drive away his son, seduce his wife and marry his daughter.

This new production of the comedy is directed by Gerald Garutti, the former dramaturg of the French People’s National Theatre and is the first ever dual language theatre production, in English and French with surtitles throughout the performance.

The production stars Paul Anderson, who is best known to television audiences for his role in Peaky Blinders and his performance in the Oscar winning The RevenantHe will be playing the title role.

He will be joined on stage by Audrey Fleurot as Elmire, known for her performances in The Intouchables and Spiral. The actress has an extensive theatre career in her country and has recently appeared in Luc Bondy’s production of the play in Théâtre de l’Odéon, Paris. The cast also includes Claude Perron, George Blagden ,Olivia Ross, Sebastian Roche and Vincent Winterhalter.
