Following the closing of Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre late August 2019, it has been announced that Mary Poppins will return to the theatre where it originally made its premiere at the same theatre back in 2004.
It has also been announced that Zizi Strallen will reprise the title role when it returns, having played Mary Poppins on its recent UK tour. She will be joined by Charlie Stemp (Half a Sixpence) who will play the role of Bert in the production.
Meanwhile, Richard Eyre directs the production with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne, co-choreography by Stephen Mear, set and costume designs by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Paul Gatehouse and orchestrations by William David Brohn.
The musical features a book by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes as well as featuring classic songs from the original film such as “Jolly Holiday”, “Step in Time”, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” by the Sherman brothers.
Tickets for Mary Poppins will go on sale in 2019.
