Following the success Becoming Shades at the Vaults Festival earlier this year, Chivaree Circus will present CRASH as part of the Winterville Festival at Clapham Common from the 28th November.
This new show presented by Chivaree Circus and Upstage Creative is a story of love, danger and mystery, told through acrobatics and aerial dance and balletic pieces. CRASH is inspired by the 19th century French ballet La Sylphide and is a retelling of this European folktale through impressionist, mixed media pop-conceptual circus.
CRASH is a shadow blinking at twilight, the hint of a love that was never meant to be, where shadows breathe and dance amongst the trees. When a mysterious woodland creature appears to a man on the morning of his wedding day, he can’t resist following her. Their love is immortal for true love conquers all. Or does it? When the forest comes alive, who is to say what is real and what is not? Who can you really trust in the moonlight? Who is the hunter and who is the prey?
Performed in the round, audiences will be take on a journey through circus, dance and beautiful atmospheric soundscapes.
Creators Laurane Marchive and Edward Gosling said: “Following the success of Becoming Shades earlier this year, Chivaree continue their exploration of the position of women in classical stories. 100 years since the first women achieved the right to vote, CRASH examines the trope of female characters and upends them tearing down existing narratives and building new ones.”
Chivaree Circus is known for their high impact circus, dramatic aesthetics and powerful visual narratives. Their last show Becoming Shades ran for two months from January to March 2018, winning an innovation award and being nominated for an Off-West End Award.
CRASH will play as part of the Winterville Festival on Clapham Common on selected dates from the 28th November until the 22nd December. For more information visit: https://winterville.co.uk/event/crash/.
