Full casting has been confirmed for Paulette Randall’s production playing at the Sam Wanamaker from the 1st December.
Doctor Faustus sits in his Wittenberg study, restless for knowledge and frustrated with the limitations of conventional scholarship. Coveting fame and power, he conjures the menacing demon, Mephistopheles, who offers Faustus a deal: in exchange for twenty-four years of supreme power and service from the demon, Faustus must sacrifice his immortal soul to a fiery Hell.
Full casting for Paulette Randall’s production is to be led by Jocelyn Jee Esien as Doctor Faustus. She will be joined on stage by Sarah Amankwah, Lily Bevan, John Leader, Louis Maskell, Pauline McLynn as Mephistopheles, Lucie Sword, Mandi Symonds and Jay Villiers.
Sarah Amankwah will play Valdes and Martino. Her previous stage credits include: Amadeus, The Threepenny Opera (National Theatre), The Crucible and Skriker (Royal Exchange).
Lily Bevan is Horse-Courser. Her theatre credits include Trump’s Women (Brasserie Zedel/RADA) and Pheasant Plucker (Bush Theatre). She also wrote and performed Zoo at the Edinburgh Festival, which will transfer to Theatre 503 next month.
Jocelyn Jee Esien’s credits include One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show (Tricycle/Eclipse), Belong (Royal Court), Torn (Arcola) and Racing Demon(Chichester Festival Theatre).
John Leader will be Robin and Cornelius. He returns to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse after appearing in Gyre & Gimble’s Vivaldi’s Four Seasons: A Reimagining earlier this year. His other recent theatre work includes A Monster Calls (Old Vic), The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and Peter Pan (National Theatre).
Louis Maskell is Benvolio and Dick. Louis’s recent theatre work includes Flowers For Mrs Harris(Sheffield Crucible/Chichester Festival Theatre), The Grinning Man (Bristol Old Vic/Trafalgar Studios) and Fiddler on the Roof (Chichester Festival Theatre).
Pauline McLynn returns to the Globe having previously played the Queen in Cymbeline as part of Dominic Dromgoole’s final season (2015). Her previous stage credits also includes Mother Courage and her Children (Albion Electric Warehouse), Daisy Pulls It Off (Park Theatre), East is East (Trafalgar Studios) Happy Days (Sheffield Crucible), Greener (Gaiety Theatre, Dublin) and Sixty-Six Books (Bush Theatre).
Lucie Sword is Evil Angel. Lucie graduated from RADA earlier this year. Her credits whilst training include Measure for Measure, The Tempest, The Trojan Women and The Way of the World (RADA).
Mandi Symonds is Wagner. Recent theatre work includes Boom (Theatre 503), Night Must Fall (Salisbury Playhouse) and Duncan Macmillan Robert Icke’s production of 1984 (Nottingham Playhouse/Almeida/West End).
Jay Villiers is Lucifer and Pope. Jay’s recent stage work includes Quiz (Chichester Festival Theatre/Noel Coward Theatre), Skylight (Theater Clwyd) and Accolade (St James’ Theatre).
