Playing at London’s Adelphi Theatre from the 8th February, the musical (now in its third year on Broadway) is set to to star Katharine McPhee in the leading role of Jenna.

Katharine McPhee first came to public attention when she appeared  on American Idol – Season 5 and has since become a popular recording artist, with her latest album ‘I Fall in Love Too Easily ‘ released last year. As an actress, she appeared in the 2013 NBC-TV musical series Smash,  which was executively  produced by Steven Spielberg and included  music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray). She recently starred in the hit CBS dramatic series Scorpion.

Based on the 2007 film by written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress the musical features a book by Jessie Nelson, a score by six-time Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus. It is the first Broadway musical in history to have four women in the four top creative team spots – and will also be a first in West End musical history when the production opens in London.

Waitress tells the story of Jenna, an expert pie maker in a small town, who dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a new life, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes to happiness. But Jenna must find the courage and strength within herself to rebuild her life. This American musical celebrates friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.

The musical originally opened on Broadway in 2016 and has since been nominated for four Outer Critics’ Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical; two Drama League Award Nominations, including Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Musical; six Drama Desk Nominations, including Outstanding Musical; and four Tony Award Nominations, including Best Musical.
