Five Minutes with…Lem Knights

The actor chatted to Love London Love Culture about starring in the musical adaptation of  Billionaire Boy by David Walliams.

Hi Lem, thanks so much for talking to me. For those who aren’t familiar with Billionaire Boy – what is it all about? Billionaire boy tells the story of Joe Spud, whose dad becomes an overnight billionaire because he invented a toilet roll that is dry on one side and wet on the other. Joe decides he wants to live like an ordinary kid so begins at the local comprehensive and soon learns that money isn’t everything.

What was it about the story that made you want to be involved with the production? I love David Walliams’ writing. I think it’s genius. The story is hilarious but has a way of pulling at those heart strings.

Can you tell me a bit more about your character Bob? What is he like to play? My character, Bob, is 12 years old and goes to local comp where he becomes best friends with Joe. Bob doesn’t really fit in and get bullied by the other kids. I have a lot of love for Bob because he has a good heart and so much to give!

How have rehearsals been going so far? Rehearsals have been a scream. The production team and the actors are so fantastic, it made it a joy to be in the room everyday watching this joyous piece of theatre come alive.

How has it been working alongside Luke Sheppard? Working with Luke has been amazing. I’ve followed and admired his work since I was at drama school, so to be able to work alongside him has been great. One ticked off the bucket list!

What can audiences expect from the production? An audience can expect to laugh until they cry and then to cry until they laugh again!!
