Love London Love Culture’s Favourite…Exhibitions of 2018

As 2018 draws to a close, Love London Love Culture picks the best  exhibitions of the year…

  1. Ocean Liners: Speed & Style, Victoria and Albert Museumthis elegantly presented exhibition really brought to life the glamour and entertainment to be had for travellers onboard some of the world’s most renowned ocean liners. Throughly enjoyable from start to finish.
  2. Rodin & the Art of Ancient Greece, British Museum:  a true celebration of the art of sculpture as much as it nicely revealed the links between Rodin’s work and the world of Ancient Greece. Featuring a wide variety of sculptures, it was an exhibition that was deeply insightful.

3. Rhythm & Reaction: The Age of Jazz in Britain, Two Temple Place: when you think of the jazz era, you predominantly think of America, which is why this extensive exhibition offered a refreshing new look at jazz and its influence here.

4. Fashioned from Nature, Victoria and Albert Museum: thought-provoking and intriguing, this exhibition revealed just how much nature is a part of the world of fashion – in terms of inspiring and in the creation in a variety of clothes. It certainly left us with a new perspective on the clothes that we were and where they come from.

5. Ladies of Quality and Distinction, Foundling Museum2018 marks the centenary of female suffrage and this exhibition at the Foundling Museum brings to life the many stories of the women involved at the hospital.

6. Michael Jackson: On the Wall, National Portrait Gallerymarking what would have been Michael Jackson’s 60th Birthday, the National Portrait Gallery marked the occasion by bringing together many portraits and interpretations of Michael Jackson by a number of artists. It was a fascinating display of work as it ensured that people understood how one person can be seen in many different ways – no one more so than the singer who was a complex individual but undisputedly talented.

7. The Future Starts Here, Victoria and Albert Museum: ever wondered what the future of technology looks like and how it will help us? Well this exhibition revealed both the pros and cons to relying so much on technology to provide a slightly disturbing if fascinating look at the future of technology.

8. Body Worlds, London Pavilion: another truly educational and engaging exhibition, Body Worlds is a more recent arrival in London that leaves you marvelling at all the different functions that your body is capable of carrying out.

9. Marvel Avengers Station, ExCel Londonthose who love the Avengers films will not want to miss out on this interactive experience exploring the backstories to many of the Avengers characters. With lots of interactive activities, it is an exhibition that has been designed to appeal to any age group.

10. Home Futures, Design Museum: this futuristic styled exhibition invites visitors to explore just how technology has developed according to the way we live now. With plenty of gadgets and ideas – particularly with regards to saving space,Home Futures is a lively and varied exhibition with plenty to offer.
