It has been announced that the Hugh Jackman film has just nudged Mamma Mia! Here We Go Agin off the number one spot.
The hit musical film about the story of P. T. Barnum and the circus show that he created has proved popular once more in the Official Film Chart, which counts sales on disc and download.
But close behind The Greatest Showman is another musical favourite – Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again which is now placed number two in the charts, with prehistoric monster-shark movie The Meg at number three.
The top ten, which includes sales up to and including 29th December 2018, sees Christmas favourite The Grinch placed at number four, Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer 2 at number five and Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Fallout is at number six in this week’s charts.
Another festive favourite, Home Alone, also placed in the chart at number seven, while Ant-Man And The Wasp remains at number eight. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom soars three places to number nine on its ninth week on the chart and Ewan McGregor in Christopher Robin falls six places to ten.
A new teaser video has also been released of some of the films released on DVD and Digital Download in the first quarter of this year. Featured titles include the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, heist movie King of Thieves, dark comedy A Simple Favour and anti-hero film Venom.
The Official Film Chart is the result of a partnership between the Official Charts Company, the British Association for Screen Entertainment and incorporates data from retailer members of the Entertainment Retailers Association – counts movie downloads from services including Amazon, iTunes, Sky Store, Virgin Media Store, Rakuten TV, Talk Talk TV, as well as 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD disc sales from all high street and online retailers.
