Here’s Love London Love Culture’s theatre picks of shows coming in  2019 you might want to book a ticket to now…

  1. Evita, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre: completing the Park’s Summer 2019 season and following on from the theatre’s successful production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, you won’t want to miss this new production directed by Jamie Lloyd.
  2. Emilia, Vaudeville Theatre: following its successful run at the Shakespeare’s Globe, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s play transfers to the Vaudeville Theatre from the 8th March.
  3. Violet, Charing Cross Theatre: based on the short story The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts, this multi-award winning musical arrives at the Charing Cross Theatre from the 14th January for a limited season. It originally premiered Off-Broadway and went on to win the Drama Critics’ Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award as Best Musical, before a Broadway revival where it was nominated for four Tony Awards.
  4. Cyprus Avenue, Royal Court Theatre: David Ireland’s play returns to the Royal Court Theatre from the 14th February for a strictly limited five week run. Given that its original run at the theatre sold out, if you missed out last time you had better be quick to catch it this time!
  5. Home, I’m Darling, Duke of York’s Theatre: following its run at the National Theatre, Laura Wade’s play transfers to the Duke of York’s Theatre for a limited run from the 26th January. The transfer sees Katherine Parkinson reprising her role as Judy – a woman on a quest to be the perfect 1950’s housewife.
  6. The Lehman Trilogy, Piccadilly Theatre: another transfer from the National Theatre heading to the West End this year is this critically acclaimed production directed by Sam Mendes. The transfer sees Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley and Ben Miles all reprising their roles for this West End run.
  7. The Twilight Zone, Ambassadors Theatre:  transferring from the Almeida Theatre and based on stories by Rod Serling, Charles Beaumont and Richard Matheson, The Twilight Zone will take audiences to another dimension – intrigued?
