The Off-Broadway musical comedy will debut at Upstairs at the Gatehouse.
The musical, written and created by Roger Bean will make its UK and European debut from the 9th April at Upstairs at the Gatehouse.
The Marvelous Wonderettes uses pop songs from the 1950’s and 1960’s such as “Stupid Cupid”, “Son of a Preacher Man”, “I Only Wanna be with
You”, “Secret Love”, “Lipstick on your Collar”, “Respect”, “Rescue Me”,
“Dream Lover” and “Heatwave” as the backdrop to the story which pays homage to the high school Song leader squads of the 50s.
The Marvelous Wonderettes takes a cotton-candied musical trip down memory lane to the 1958 Springfield High School Prom, where we meet The Wonderettes: four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts. The show follows their lives and loves from Prom Night to their 10-year Reunion.
This multi-award winning show originally opened in New York at the Waterside Theatre in 2008 to outstanding critical acclaim.
The Marvelous Wonderettes is set to be directed by Joseph Hodges with choreography by Iona Holland and musical direction by Lauren Ronan, design by Emily Bestow, lighting design by Sarah Mc Colgan and sound design by Phil Wilson.
This UK premiere production is being produced by Joseph Hodges Entertainment, with casting yet to be announced.
