It has been announced that the French- Canadian actress Audrey Brisson will be playing the role of Amélie Poulian in the UK premiere of the musical based on the Oscar nominated film.

The production, which will open at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury on the 11th April, before embarking on a UK tour, will be directed by Michael Fentiman.
Audrey Brisson is set to play the title role that was originally played by Audrey Tautou in the 2001 film Le Fabuleux Destin D’Amélie Poulain. Her previous stage credits include: The Elephantom, Pinocchio and Pericles (National Theatre), Midnight’s Pumpkin and The Wild Bride(Kneehigh), The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (Kensington Gardens), Dead Dog in a Suitcase & Other Love Songs (Kneehigh), Romeo and Juliet (Rose Theatre, Kingston), The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk (Kneehigh), The Grinning Man (Bristol Old Vic), The Strada (UK Tour & The Other Palace).
Talking about the news she said: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Audrey Brisson et c’est avec un immense plaisir que je m’apprête à jouer le rôle d’Amelie Poulain. Amélie the musical features music by Hem’s Daniel Messé, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Daniel Messé and book by Craig Lucas. It was first staged in California in 2015.
