The London gallery will present a new exhibition focused on the art movement of Spatialism.
On display from the 17th to the 29th May, the new exhibition will bring together the work of the most celebrated Italian artists of the 20th century, including Lucio Fontana, Turi Simeti, Agostino Bonalumi and Enrico Castellani.
Organised in partnership with the Italian Embassy in London, an official vernissage will be held at the Italian Embassy in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Raffaele Trombetta, with a selection of artworks exhibited at the Embassy especially for the occasion.
This exhibition will be the first time in its history that the Opera Gallery in London will showcase around forty works from the 20th century Italian art movement of Spatialism.
Artists whose work will be displayed includes Lucio Fontana, the founder of Spatialism, who is currently having his first major US retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, to be displayed subsequently at the Guggenheim in Bilbao; Enrico Castellani, whose art has been exhibited at the MoMA, Solomon Guggenheim Museum, Centre Pompidou, Stedelijk Museum and Milan Prada Foundation; Agostino Bonalumi, a member of the ZERO movement and recipient of the prestigious Presidente della Repubblica Award; Pino Manos, one of the last living artists from Spatalism.
Talking about the exhibition Federica Beretta, Director of Opera Gallery, commented: “In a time of great appetite for post-war Italian art both from an academic and an art market prospective, we are honoured to present this show in collaboration with the Italian Embassy who has demonstrated a great level of dedication and passion in the promotion and appreciation of Italian artistic excellence.”
