Love London Love Culture’s Film Picks of the Month: May 2019

Here’s Love London Love Culture’s guide to some of the best films being released this month…

Tolkien: this new film based on the early life The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit author is directed by Dome Karukoski and written by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford. Released on the 3rd May, the film stars Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins and Derek Jacobi.

Rocketman: this biographical musical drama based on the life of Elton John is released in cinemas on the 24th May. The cast is led by Taron Egerton as Elton John and also stars Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard. The film particularly concentrates on the singer’s early days at the Royal Academy of Music, leading right up to musical partnership with Bernie Taupin.

The Hustle: released on the 10th May, Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson star in this female led interpretation based on the 1988 film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The film also stars Alex Sharp and Tim Blake Nelson.

The Secret Life of Pets 2: this sequel to the 2016 original film produced by Illumination is set to be released on the 24th May. The film features the voices of Patton Oswalt as Max, Kevin Hart as Snowball and in his first irst animated film role Harrison Ford as Rooster.

Aladdin: this highly anticipated live action remake of the classic Disney film finally heads to cinema screens on the 24th May. As well as Will Smith as the genie, the cast for the film also includes Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine.
