Casting has been confirmed for Dean Johnson’s semi-staged concert performance of Godspell, taking place at Cadogan Hall on the 29th June.
It has been announced that Laura Baldwin, Luke Bayer, Max Bowden, Rachel John and Ramin Karimloo are set to star alongside students from the British Theatre Academy in a semi-staged concert performance of Stephen Schwartz’s musical at Cadogan Hall in June.
Talking about the news BTA Artistic Director Matthew Chandler said: “I am so excited about this line-up and giving our kids the opportunity to work with such amazing, inspiring, world class talents. ‘Godspell’ promises to be an unforgettable experience for them all.”
Godspell tells the story of Jesus as told in the Gospel of Matthew in a truly universal fashion. Through the show, the community of disciples learn through shared teaching the concepts of compassion, trust, humility, teamwork, action and love, as they seek to build a ‘Beautiful City’ of a better future.
The musical includes songs such as ‘Day By Day’, ‘Prepare Ye’, ‘Turn Back O Man’ and ‘Beautiful City’.
This semi-staged production is directed by Dean Johnson and is set to feature musical direction from James Taylor and choreography from Thea Butler.
The British Theatre Academy performers are also currently in rehearsal for their summer season at the Southwark Playhouse. This year their productions include Once On This Island, Disney’s My Son Pinocchio, Dogfight and a new one-hour version of Footloose.
Godspell will be performed at the Cadogan Hall on the 29th June.
